Voice For Health – Discontinuity

Dr. Freedman

As you may already know, “discs” are the pads of cartilage that are positioned between adjacent vertebrae that act as “shock absorbers.” Each disc consists of a fibrous outer ring of cartilage that encases a jelly-like layer of soft cartilage. Voice For Health – Avoiding Injury On The Slopes

Dr. FreedmanTo get in shape for the ski season, skiers should first attend to their cardiovascular fitness, which can be developed through rollerblading, tennis, and soccer. These sports feature lateral movements similar to skiing and provide a good cardio workout. To reduce risk of injury, skiers should look to improve flexibility in their hips, thighs, groins, and lower backs. Next comes strength training, which focuses on the quadriceps muscles to protect the knees. Balance and agility are also vital and can be developed by doing lateral box jumps and tuck jumps. If any of these exercises prove problematic, chiropractic assessment and treatment can lead to improved joint flexibility, balance, and agility, which are needed to improve muscle strength and cardio fitness.
