Dr. Freedman“Myofascial pain syndrome” (MPS) is a chronic condition that affects the “fascia,” the connective tissue that covers the muscles. Due to muscle injury or excessive strain, a “trigger point” develops that causes pain in other areas of the body. Myofascial pain syndrome, which affects an estimated 25% of the general population (and 85% of middle-aged individuals), can be caused by an injury to muscle fibers, repetitive motions, or lack of activity. The good news is that chiropractic treatment may help ease this muscle pain. According to a study involving 36 people with MPS, those receiving spinal adjustments experienced far less pain and sensitivity to pain than those receiving placebo treatment. These benefits were realized immediately after chiropractic treatment.

At FAMILY PRACTICE OF CHIROPRACTIC, we are ex- perts at analyzing posture and spinal problems. We are spe- cially skilled in the techniques of spinal adjustments and knowledgeable in the preven- tion of neck, back, and other musculoskeletal problems. Please call 617.472.4220 to schedule an appointment. We’re located at 112 McGrath Hwy., Quincy. We are able to adjust patients sitting, stand- ing, or lying down to accommo- date any level of discomfort.

P.S. Pain that is perceived at a location other than the site of painful stimulus is known as “referred pain.”
