If you plan to golf on vacation, remember that swinging a golf club exerts a lot of strain on muscles and tendons. In fact, a golf swing places a higher compressive load on the lower back (eight times body weight) than running (three times) or even rowing (seven times). That is why a single swing can produce a herniated disc or even a compression fracture of one of the vertebral bodies. Although extremely painful, these injuries are rare. Muscle strains, however, are quite common due to the twisting that is required for a good swing. While the “modern” swing, with its inverted-C follow through, may make for longer drives than the “classic” swing, it also produces more torque and more injuries.
When sports injuries occur, chiropractors can help with things like strains and sprains, tendinitis, and stress fractures. Studies show that chiropractic treatment for low back pain is one of the most effective and cost-efficient approaches to restore mobility, reduce pain, and help people return to normal activities. P.S. Chiropractic treatment may improve your golf swing by readying your body for the forces that a swing generates.

“Adhesive capsulitis” (commonly known as “frozen shoulder”) occurs when the capsule of connective tissue surrounding the shoulder joint develops chronic inflammation, thickens, and tightens. Symptoms include gradual pain when moving the shoulder followed by increased stiffness that limits range of motion. Most cases of frozen shoulder follow a specific pattern. First, there is an acute phase that is characterized by significant pain and functional impairment. This is followed by a progressive stiffening phase as shoulder motion worsens. The shoulder joint may become so tight and stiff that it is nearly impossible to carry out simple movements, such as simply raising the arm. Treatment consisting of gentle stretching exercises and manipulation of the shoulder joint helps get the shoulder moving again.
Instead of covering up your symptoms with drugs, at FAMILY PRACTICE OF CHIROPRACTIC, we will help determine if your health problem, such as frozen shoulder, can be helped through gentle chiropractic care – without drugs or surgery. P.S. While the cause of frozen shoulder is not exactly known, patients with diabetes, Parkinson’s disease, cardiovascular disease, and thyroid disorders seem to be at greater risk.
The relationship between chiropractic and fitness has been redefined. Although most chiropractors still focus on helping people prevent and recover from back and joint injuries and misalignments, more attention is being focused on preventing injuries among exercisers and athletes who want to preserve their fitness. This trend is born of greater interest in exercise and healthy lifestyles. Exercise-minded individuals are likely to find that they can learn a lot about their bodies’ structure from a chiropractor, who has a great deal of knowledge and experience with biomechanics. A chiropractor can assess problems and weaknesses as well as design a detailed program to meet active people’s needs. Along with good nutrition, exercise is a key factor in maintaining health
