Dr. FreedmanPain along the outer side of the knee, particularly among runners, is likely due to “iliotibial band syndrome.” This type of pain usually begins a few minutes into a run and progressively worsens until it forces the runner to stop. The cause of this pain is an overly tight iliotibial band, the hard band of fiber at the outside of the thigh that extends down to the knee. It starts at the rim of the pelvis, crosses the point of the hip, comes down the thigh across the outer side of the knee, and attaches below the knee. To address underlying causes of this problem, the chiropractor will likely conduct gait analysis with particular focus on the hip abductor muscles.

We promote a drugless, noninvasive form of health care that addresses your lifestyle and physical issues affecting your joints and spine through procedures such as custom exercise routines. At FAMILY PRACTICE OF CHIROPRACTIC, our office and our friendly staff will work you one-on-one to find the root of the problem. We invite you to call 617.472.4220 to schedule an appointment. We’re located at 112 McGrath Hwy., Quincy, where we are currently accepting new patients. We are able to adjust patients sitting, standing, or lying down to accommodate any level of discomfort.

P.S. The hip abductor muscles are a group of four muscles located in the buttocks. Their primary function is to separate the legs from the midline of the body, which occurs during any athletic movement requiring side-to-side motion.
