Patellofemoral pain syndrome (“runner’s knee”) is a painful condition that often results from knee overuse. It involves the patella (kneecap), which is attached to the quadriceps and the shin bone and also fits into grooves in the end of the thigh bone (femur). With the repeated flexing of the knee that comes with running or walking, joggers and runners may experience irritation on the inside surface of the kneecap, which causes pain. In addition, patellofemoral pain syndrome may result from misalignment of the hips, legs, knees, or feet. Whether due to wide hips, underdeveloped thigh muscles, being knock-kneed, having subluxations, or over-pronation, knee pain can result. These problems can be diagnosed by chiropractic gait analysis.
Runner’s knee is a common ailment among runners, but it can also strike others. A continuing schedule of regular chiropractic checkups can help detect, correct, and maintain optimum spinal and nervous system function. Chiropractic care can help anyone become healthier. Call FAMILY PRACTICE OF CHIROPRACTIC at 617.472.4220 to schedule an appointment. We’re located at 112 McGrath Hwy., Quincy.
