Dr. Freedman“Kyphosis” is the term used to describe a curvature of the upper spine that results in an abnormally rounded back. Kyphosis can occur at any age and may be caused by muscle weakness in the upper back, arthritis, osteoporosis, scoliosis, spinal injury, “slipped” discs, or certain diseases. The most common form of kyphosis is “postural kyphosis,” which is often caused by slouching. This type of kyphosis usually becomes noticeable during adolescence, when early diagnosis and treatment are recommended. By realigning vertebrae and building strength and flexibility in affected muscles and ligaments, chiropractic treatment strives to avert body-image problems and pain. Treatment may also help avoid breathing and eating difficulties associated with severe cases of postural kyphosis.

A chiropractor can determine the exact cause of your kyphosis and develop a treatment plan for you based on what’s causing it. He or she will teach you exercises that can help you manage symptoms. Chiropractic care is an important tool that helps you get back to enjoying life. Beyond reducing pain, spinal adjustments enhance the ability of your nervous system to function at an optimal level. To schedule an appointment, please call FAMILY PRACTICE OF CHIROPRACTIC at 617- 472-4229. Our practice is located at 112 McGrath Hwy., Quincy.

P.S. If you catch yourself pitching your head forward as you work at a computer and keyboard, you might want to schedule a visit to the chiropractor for an assessment of your posture.
