Voice For Health – Avoiding Injury On The Slopes

Dr. FreedmanTo get in shape for the ski season, skiers should first attend to their cardiovascular fitness, which can be developed through rollerblading, tennis, and soccer. These sports feature lateral movements similar to skiing and provide a good cardio workout. To reduce risk of injury, skiers should look to improve flexibility in their hips, thighs, groins, and lower backs. Next comes strength training, which focuses on the quadriceps muscles to protect the knees. Balance and agility are also vital and can be developed by doing lateral box jumps and tuck jumps. If any of these exercises prove problematic, chiropractic assessment and treatment can lead to improved joint flexibility, balance, and agility, which are needed to improve muscle strength and cardio fitness.

Here at FAMILY PRACTICE OF CHIROPRACTIC, our mission is to support as many people as possible in their quest for health and to educate them about chiropractic so they in return can educate others. To schedule an appointment please call 617-472-4220. We see infants, children, pregnant women, adults and also patients into their 80s and 90s. We often help patients that have tried many other types of treatment, even other chiropractors, to no avail. Our practice is located at 112 McGrath Hwy., Quincy.

P.S. If you begin falling on the ski slopes, resist the urge to throw out your hand to stop yourself, and do not try to stand up while still sliding.

Voice For Health – Spinal Wear and Tear

Dr. FreedmanJust as wear-and-tear osteoarthritis can cause pain and limit mobility of the hips, knees, and finger joints, it can also affect the spinal (vertebral) joints. The term “spondylosis” refers to wear-and-tear changes to the spine, x-ray evidence of which can be seen in nearly everyone over the age of 70 and even in 10% of people by the age of 25 years. At whatever age spondylosis occurs, only some affected individuals experience problems as a result. Symptoms include muscle spasm and pain, loss of balance and difficulty walking, a grinding or popping sensation that occurs during movement of the spine, and headaches. Symptoms differ by what part of the spine is affected. Chiropractic treatment targets affected joints. Chiropractors believe that a healthy nervous system is synonymous with a healthy body. A subluxation, or the misalignment of a vertebra, may distress the nervous system and lead to a disorder causing back and neck pain.

At the FAMILY PRACTICE OF CHIROPRACTIC, we see infants, children, pregnant women, adults and also seniors. We can help patients with sports injuries, chronic pain, and acute trauma. To schedule an appointment, please call 617-472- 4220. Our practice is located at 112 McGrath Hwy., Quincy.

P.S. Spondylosis in the lower back may produce weakness or other nerve-related problems that affect the legs, rather than the arms or legs, which are affected more by spondylosis in the neck (cervical spondylosis)
