Update on Beacon Hill
At the public hearing held August 10, 2016 considering proposed regulatory changes that would require MassHealth patients to obtain a PCP referral for chiropractic services, the MCS was represented by Dr. Joseph Kornfeld, president; Dr. Albert Kalter, secretary; and Mr. James Hurrell, legislative agent. Drs. Kornfeld and Hurrell presented strong testimony that the changes would represent a backward step and be more costly for the Commonwealth.
Although the hearing is over and the evidence has been presented, the administration has not yet made its decision public and no changes have yet been made. Therefore, it is important for us to keep the pressure on and continue having our friends and relatives continue contacting the governors office and Executive Office of Health and Human Services of their concerns regarding the loss of access to chiropractic services. This action by the Governor and his administration will essentially deprive 25 percent of Massachusetts citizens the freedom to choose chiropractic if they want it.
