Runners are notorious for having tight muscles, particularly their glutes, hamstrings, inner thighs, and hip flexors. The reason for this is that these muscles are not being stretched during the running motion. Moreover, because running is a repetitive motion that utilizes the same muscles in the same way over and over, these muscles become increasingly tight. The good news is that increasing their flexibility counteracts that tension and helps runners improve their stride and protect against injury. Otherwise, when one muscle group is tight and an opposing muscle group is flexible, it can lead to muscle imbalances and joint pain. Regular chiropractic treatment can help runners avoid these imbalances, as well as address factors that compromise performance and endurance.
If you are already suffering from a running injury, chiropractic is a wonderful non-drug alternative to helping you get rid of pain while working towards correcting the problem and improving your running form. At FAMILY PRACTICE OF CHIROPRACTIC, we focus on improving your overall health and wellness in order to reduce the risk of injury and illness and avoid disease. We’re located at 112 McGrath Hwy., Quincy. Please call us at 617.472.4220 to schedule an appointment. Chiropractic works! We offer computerized spinal scans.
P.S. Building more bone when a person is young will help to stave off bone loss in later years.
During an initial chiropractic evaluation, attention is paid to patients’ gait, upright posture, and orientation of their feet. With this in mind, it is interesting to point out that about 20%-30% of the population is born with a foot trait known as “Morton’s foot.” Often also referred to as “Morton’s toe,” this term refers to a second toe that appears to be longer than the first toe, caused by a first metatarsal bone that is shorter than the second metatarsal. As a result, it can contribute to various musculoskeletal issues, as the weight normally carried by the ball of the foot at the base of the big toe shifts to the balls at the bases of the other toes.
There are amazingly 26 bones in the foot, with each and every one capable of causing pain! At FAMILY PRACTICE OF CHIROPRACTIC, we are seriously concerned with the education of our patients about health and the body’s natural state. The next time a health problem strikes someone in your family, or you think you could benefit from a chiropractic check-up, think about the quality and expert care we provide. We invite you to call 617.472.4220 to schedule an appointment. Our office is located at 112 McGrath Hwy., Quincy. We offer computerized spinal scans.
P.S. Morton’s foot/toe is also referred to as “Greek foot” because the ancient Greeks found the trait to be so aesthetically appealing that they incorporated it into paintings and sculptures, including Michelangelo’s David.
At the public hearing held August 10, 2016 considering proposed regulatory changes that would require MassHealth patients to obtain a PCP referral for chiropractic services, the MCS was represented by Dr. Joseph Kornfeld, president; Dr. Albert Kalter, secretary; and Mr. James Hurrell, legislative agent. Drs. Kornfeld and Hurrell presented strong testimony that the changes would represent a backward step and be more costly for the Commonwealth.
Although the hearing is over and the evidence has been presented, the administration has not yet made its decision public and no changes have yet been made. Therefore, it is important for us to keep the pressure on and continue having our friends and relatives continue contacting the governors office and Executive Office of Health and Human Services of their concerns regarding the loss of access to chiropractic services. This action by the Governor and his administration will essentially deprive 25 percent of Massachusetts citizens the freedom to choose chiropractic if they want it.

Whether teenagers are interested in strengthening their bodies for sports or they simply want to look more buff, many perform “squat lifts” as part of their weight training regimens. Starting from a standing position with a weighted barbell on the shoulders or above the head, a squat lift involves bending the knees and hips to lower the torso and accompanying weight and then returning to the upright position. While a “front squat” involves carrying the weight in front of the chest, a “back squat” entails placing weight on the shoulders behind the neck. X-ray analysis of squat lifts reveals that back squats put the lower spine in a more horizontal position, increasing the risk of stress fractures.
